The Centre's Message
Considering the all round steady development and accelerated growth witnessed by the GCC countries especially with regard to the economy, their Majesties and Highness the leaders of the GCC countries at their Riyadh Summit in 1993 decided to establish a Gulf Center for Commercial Arbitration. Consequently, the Gulf Cooperation Council Commercial Arbitration Center (GCCCAC or Center) was established to support the growing commercial sector and began its operations in 1995 from Manama, the capital of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The new building of GCCCAC makes it possible to expand the services offered by the Center and the focus will be on this aspect. The Center is witnessing increased activity in terms of the services it provides both in the number of dispute cases and in the field of training. The increase in the number of cases referred to the Center reflects the confidence of businesses in the robustness and fairness of the awards passed by the Center. Similarly, for the same reason, a large number of professionals are seeking to register themselves in the lists of arbitrators and experts maintained by the Center. The excellent reputation of the Center and its high standing in commercial and legal circles motivate us to exert greater efforts to enhance the role and function of the Center. Achieving the GCC leaders’ vision for the Center remains a priority for the Board of Directors and the General Secretariat.
We have an ambitious plan to enhance cooperation between the Center and the Gulf chambers of commerce and industry as well as their affiliated arbitration centers in the near future. We also have a vision to strengthen cooperation with other organs of the GCC Supreme Council, including the ministries of justice and related government agencies that are concerned with local and foreign investments. Considering the fact that arbitration enhances business confidence and plays a pivotal role in attracting foreign investments, the GCC Commercial Arbitration Center seeks to position itself as the largest and most dependable Arbitration Center in the region. To achieve this goal, the Center strives to enhance its reputation, integrity, independence of arbitrators while avoiding conflict of interests in commercial arbitration. We look forward to developing the Center to be the best amongst its peers by honoring and adhering to the basic principles of neutrality and independence. To this end, I salute the efforts of the General Secretariat for their commendable role. We trust that they will continue to contribute significantly in their pursuit of excellence and maintaining the high standing of the Center.
